The MHRA’s February 2026 Drug Safety Update confirmed that a falsified version of Mounjaro KwikPen 15mg had been found supplied through one online pharmacy in the UK. The falsified product carried batch number D873576. The issue was identified after reports of faults with the pen mechanism — specifically the dose knob coming off during use. Eli Lilly informed the MHRA that five falsified pens had been identified, supplied by a pharmacy in Birmingham. The GPhC subsequently served a notice of conditions on the pharmacy involved.
The broader picture is equally concerning. MHRA enforcement data obtained via Freedom of Information request revealed that 6,526 falsified or unlicensed weight loss injections were seized over a three-year period, with 5,851 of those seized in 2025 alone — a dramatic increase year on year.
The MHRA’s advice is unambiguous: only obtain Mounjaro through a GPhC-registered pharmacy dispensing with a valid UK prescription. Do not purchase from unregulated websites, social media, or any source that does not require a proper clinical assessment.
The safeguard is not avoiding online pharmacies. It is using regulated ones.
How to verify a pharmacy before ordering
Given the above, verifying a provider takes less than two minutes and is always worth doing.
