How Fast Is Mounjaro Delivery? What to Expect After Your Consultation
Getting started with a new prescription treatment raises a lot of practical questions. What happens after you submit your consultation? How long does review take? When does it get dispatched? And what should you do when it arrives?
This article walks through each stage clearly — so you know exactly what to expect.
Step 1: Completing your consultation
The process begins with your online eligibility assessment. This covers your medical history, current medications, allergies, weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
Since February 2025, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has required all pharmacies dispensing weight loss injections to independently verify patient information — meaning a qualified prescriber must actively review your consultation rather than simply processing a form automatically. This is a legal requirement, not a courtesy.
At Together Clinic, this review is carried out by a named, GPhC-registered pharmacist prescriber. You can verify their registrations directly:
- Ahmed Nizar Al-Liabi — Superintendent Pharmacist (GPhC: 2208502)
- Sunil Thacker — Independent Pharmacist Prescriber (GPhC: 2047968)
Typical timeline at this stage: Consultations submitted during working hours are reviewed the same day. Consultations submitted outside working hours are reviewed the next working day.
Step 2: Prescriber review and decision
Once your consultation is submitted, your prescriber reviews it against your clinical profile. This is not an automated process.
They are checking for contraindications, reviewing your current medications for interactions, confirming your BMI meets the NICE eligibility criteria for tirzepatide — a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with weight-related health conditions — and making a clinical judgement about whether treatment is appropriate for you at this time.
If your prescriber needs additional information, they may contact you before issuing a prescription.
If you are not eligible, you will be told clearly and respectfully, with guidance on appropriate next steps including speaking with your GP.
Typical timeline at this stage: Same-day review for consultations received during working hours. You will receive confirmation once a decision has been made.
Step 3: Prescription issued and dispensed
Once your prescriber is satisfied that treatment is clinically appropriate, a private prescription is issued and your medication is dispensed by the pharmacy.
Mounjaro is available in six dose strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg. According to Eli Lilly’s patient guidance, treatment typically begins at 2.5mg once weekly for the first four weeks. Dose increases are made in 2.5mg increments, with a minimum of four weeks at each dose before any increase is considered.
Each KwikPen contains four doses — one month’s treatment at a single dose strength.
Important note on the pen: From April 2026, Eli Lilly began rolling out a redesigned KwikPen with a lower plunger starting position to reduce leftover medicine and make it clearer when all doses have been administered. Both versions are clinically identical. You may receive either depending on current pharmacy stock.
Step 4: Dispatch and delivery
Your medication is dispatched in temperature-controlled, cold-chain packaging. Eli Lilly’s manufacturer guidance requires Mounjaro to be kept between 2°C and 8°C before first use, and pharmacies cannot use any part of the room-temperature allowance during transit.
Delivery is tracked. You will receive confirmation once your order has been dispatched.
Typical timeline at this stage: Next working day delivery for orders approved and dispatched before the daily cut-off time. Delivery timeframes may vary depending on your location and the courier service used. Always confirm expected delivery times with your provider at the point of ordering.
Step 5: Receiving your medication
When your package arrives, here is what to do immediately:
- Place the pen in your refrigerator at 2–8°C if you are not injecting immediately
- Do not freeze the pen — if frozen, it must not be used
- Check the packaging is intact and the pen appears undamaged
- Check the batch number if you have any concerns — the MHRA’s February 2026 Drug Safety Update identified a falsified pen carrying batch number D873576. If your pen carries this batch number, do not use it and contact your pharmacist immediately
Keep your pen in its original carton to protect it from light until you are ready to inject.
Step 6: Your first injection
According to the Mounjaro Summary of Product Characteristics, Mounjaro is injected subcutaneously — under the skin — once weekly. Suitable injection sites are the abdomen, the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if administered by another person. Injection sites should be rotated with each dose.
The dose can be administered at any time of day, with or without food.
Your KwikPen contains four doses. Read the Instructions for Use included with your pen carefully before your first injection. Your prescriber or pharmacist can answer any questions about technique.
After your first dose, you can store the pen at room temperature — up to 30°C — for up to 30 days before discarding after your fourth dose.
What happens after your first month?
Your prescriber will review your progress before your dose is increased. NICE guidance recommends that dose increases are made in 2.5mg increments with a minimum of four weeks at each dose. You should not increase your dose without clinical review.
At the six-month mark, NICE recommends continuing treatment only if at least 5% of starting body weight has been lost. This review is a clinical checkpoint, not an administrative one.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the whole process take from consultation to delivery? Patients who complete their consultation during working hours can typically expect the process from consultation to delivery to take one to two working days. This includes prescriber review, prescription issue, dispensing, and next-day tracked dispatch. Timelines may vary depending on individual circumstances.
What if my consultation is flagged for additional information? Your prescriber may contact you if they need to clarify anything before issuing a prescription. Respond as promptly as you can to avoid delays.
Can I choose my injection day? Yes. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection and can be taken on any day of the week, at any time of day. Eli Lilly recommends setting a weekly reminder to help maintain consistency.
What if my pen arrives damaged or looks unusual? Contact your dispensing pharmacy immediately. Do not use a pen that appears damaged, has been frozen, or carries the batch number D873576 identified in the MHRA February 2026 Drug Safety Update. Report suspected adverse reactions or defective pens to the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
What happens if I miss a weekly dose? If fewer than four days have passed since your scheduled injection day, take your dose as soon as you remember and resume your regular weekly schedule. If more than four days have passed, skip the missed dose and continue as normal the following week. Do not take two doses to compensate. If you are unsure, contact your prescribing pharmacist.

The bottom line
Understanding the process from consultation to delivery removes the uncertainty that stops a lot of people from taking the first step. A regulation-compliant clinical assessment, a named prescriber review, cold-chain dispatch, and tracked delivery — that is what the process looks like when it is done correctly.
